Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Uptown Vision the leading provider of vision care products and services in Minneapolis.
Dr. Sabre grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Saint Thomas Academy high school. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with distinction from Pacific University College of Optometry in Portland, Oregon. He conducted research in pediatric and infant vision and was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa International Honor Society while attending Pacific University. Dr. Sabre received his subspecialty training in vision therapy at the State University of New York College of Optometry in New York, New York. He is the recipient of the Silhouette Optical Academic Excellence Award, the Irvin M. Borish Clinical Excellence Award, the Bernell Clinical Optometry Award and the Skeffington Clinical Excellence Award in Vision Therapy.
Dr. Sabre founded the Uptown Vision Clinic in 1991, where he provides comprehensive eyecare services including measuring and prescribing for refractive conditions, designing and fitting contact lenses and consulting on laser vision correction. He also diagnoses and treats eye conditions including glaucoma, pink eye, dry eye syndrome, cataracts, macular degeneration and ocular allergies.
Dr. Sabre’s professional affiliations include the American, Minnesota and Arizona Optometric Associations. He is a member of the Transitions Optical Pro Forum panel of advisors.
On a personal note, Dr. Sabre resides in the southwest suburbs of Minneapolis and enjoys swimming, cycling, running, triathlons and skiing.
Dr. Kristin Swenson
Dr. Swenson was raised in North Central Iowa. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. She earned her doctorate degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Swenson has been with Uptown Vision Clinic since 2006. She comes to us with 18 years of experience. She specializes in primary care optometry including contact lens fitting, treatment and management of ocular disease and urgent eyecare services. She loves the challenge of difficult contact lens fits, and has significant experience with keratoconus.
She moved to Minnesota with her family in 1997. In her free time she enjoys several of the outdoor activities Minnesota has to offer including swimming, skiing, ice skating and fishing.
Dr. Kari Maffitt
Dr. Maffitt grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. She attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She ventured away from the Midwest to earn her doctorate from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.
While at Southern College of Optometry, Dr. Maffitt gained invaluable experience in pre- and post-operative refractive and cataract surgery exams, ocular disease, contact lenses, binocular vision and pediatrics. Dr. Maffitt completed externships at the White Earth Indian Health Services Clinic in Ogema, Minnesota, at River Valley Eye Professionals in Northfield, Minnesota and at The Eye Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
While Dr. Maffitt enjoys all areas of optometry, she has special interests in pediatrics and difficult to fit contact lenses.
Dr. Maffitt is a member of the Minnesota Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Maffitt loves living just blocks from Lake Nokomis. In her spare time she enjoys spending time outside, cooking and checking out the many wonderful restaurants that Minneapolis has to offer.
